Athens, April 13th 2022 Anti-corrosion and anti-flood projects in 7,715 acres in the area of Varybobi-Tatoi, were delivered today during an on-site visit of the Minister of Environment & Energy, Mr. Kostas Skrekas, the Deputy Minister of Environment & Energy, Mr. George Amyras and Secretary General for Forestry, Konstantinos Aravossis, with the General Manager of Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon, Mrs. Maria Anargyrou - Nikolic.

The rehabilitation project, is undertaken by Coca-Cola in Greece (Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon & Coca-Cola Hellas) with a donation of 1,8 million Euros and it is the largest project implemented in the Attica region. It offers anti-corrosion and anti-flood protection that the area needs, allowing the natural forest regeneration. This initiative is linked to the company’s broader strategy against climate crisis. Committed to zero carbon emissions by 2040, the company has already reduced plastics in secondary packaging, through new aluminum packaging from 100% recyclable cardboard, the use of rPET, and the transition to 100% renewable energy sources and low carbon emissions.

Coca-Cola in Greece, with a high sense of responsibility and social contribution, in the aftermath of last summer’s catastrophic wildfires, enthusiastically supported the institution of the Rehabilitation and Reforestation Contractor. Its contribution to the great national effort for the reconstruction of fire-affected areas and the adaptation of forest ecosystems to the challenges of the climate crisis are valuable. In total, Coca-Cola in Greece has funded 1,8 million Euros for the anti-corrosion and anti-flood projects in Varympompi and Tatoi, in an area of ​​7,715 acres. Today, these projects, which were completed within a few months, are being delivered to the competent services of the Ministry of Environment and Energy

We are very proud that we deliver this project that contribute massively in dealing with the effects of the climate crisis, such as the catastrophic wildfires we experienced in August 2021. We thank all the people who worked with a high sense of responsibility, speed and consistency to ensure the immediate protection and the area’s rehabilitation. However, we will not stop here. We will continue to monitor the area systematically and will contribute where is deemed necessary both for its regeneration, but at the same time to avoid similar disasters in the future.

“After the fire” - capturing the rehabilitation efforts in a short documentary

 

Climate crisis is the present. We don’t want it to be the future. Action is the answer. The course of the rehabilitation and nature protection works of the area was captured in a short documentary starring all those who worked for the implementation of the project. The aim of this picture is to never forget the catastrophe we experienced and simultaneously to be always remind of the hope for the rebirth of nature
